Moving Forward
Rebuilding Your Routine, Week by Week
This isn't a "bounce back fast" plan — it's a gentle framework for finding small footholds again, one week at a time. Skip weeks, repeat weeks, or ignore this entirely if it doesn't fit where you are. There's no wrong way to do this.
Week 1: Just the basics
- Focus only on eating, sleeping, and getting through each day — nothing more is required of you.
- Let one trusted person help manage logistics (bills, messages, errands) if possible.
- Cancel or postpone non-essential obligations without guilt.
Week 2: Small anchors
- Pick one small daily anchor — a morning walk, a cup of tea on the porch, a specific playlist — just something consistent.
- Allow yourself one "normal" activity this week: a favorite meal, a show you enjoy, time with a pet.
- If it feels right, consider joining a peer circle — many members say week two is when connecting with others starts to help.
Week 3: Light structure
- Return to light work or responsibilities if you haven't already, even at reduced capacity.
- Start tackling one piece of unfinished logistics (returning a gift, cancelling a vendor) — just one, not all at once.
- Consider scheduling a session with a licensed therapist or counselor if you haven't yet.
Week 4: Reclaiming space
- Revisit your living space — rearrange something, remove wedding-related items you're ready to part with, or simply tidy up as an act of care for yourself.
- Plan one small thing to look forward to, even something modest like a coffee date or a solo outing.
- Reflect on how far you've come, even if progress feels slow or non-linear — it still counts.
If you're not "there" by week 4, that's completely fine. Grief and readjustment don't follow a fixed schedule. Repeat any week as many times as you need, and consider ongoing support through our community or a licensed professional if things still feel heavy.
